That’s . . . quite an interesting metaphor you got, there. 🙂
One of these days I’ll have to read Mieville. I’ve heard lots of good things about him, but I’ve also heard things that make me ambivalent about reading him. No, I don’t remember what they are, not specifically. Had to do with (I think) the general “grunginess” of his writing and/or the story, and/or the “artsiness” of the same, or something like that. Not sure. Anyway, I should give him a look at the very least. And try not to remember your metaphor too vividly while I do so.
hmm…
I can see different people taking different things from him. The prose style takes a little bit to get into (or it did for me). It’s almost like you need to become attuned to it. But I wouldn’t dismiss it as artsy. And there is a grunge factor, but I wouldn’t say it detracts. Actually, the book reminded me a little of your short story about the buildings’ spirits, mostly because of the way that places become almost characters in the book.
I can’t guarantee you’ll like it, but I think we have similar tastes, and I wasn’t put off by the things that normally put us both off ;>
I love you AND your commas, fox girl!!!
Be safe and be well…
