…because everything sounds better in a foreign language!
I really hate three things.
I hate plagiarism. I had a case of it today (two, actually — completely duplicate copies of each other). It’s ridiculous because it was for a tiny 3 point lab procedure assignment. My policy when I’m teaching my own class is to fail a student for any case of blatant plagiarism, but I’m an AI so the case gets sent to the course directors. It really sucked because I had to talk to them (the plagiarizers) outside during the lab. I informed them that they would get a zero for the assignment and I would forward all the relevent material to the directors including instructing them to each send me an e-mail explaining what happened and why their assignments are verbatim copies of each other’s). But after that, I still had to teach the course, including explaining to students why they got poor grades on their lab reports when they obviously didn’t cover the basic requirements. I had one student in near tears as I explained to him that I wouldn’t be changing his grade. And the plagiarism students kept asking to talk to me outside about their case.
I hate not knowing whether to base my plans on other people. I’m hungry, I’m tired, I’m in a really bad mood, it’s 7:00, I think the fox and I were supposed to have dinner together but I’m not sure and I can’t get ahold of him to check, so I don’t know if I should wait or not.
I hate frittering. People sitting around talking about doing something but not having the balls to decide what to do and just do it drive me nutty. The whole process of a large group deciding where to eat can make me want to kick puppies. Right now I hate myself because I’m frittering. Fuck it.
edit: I got ahold of the fox just as I was leaving, so things are looking slightly up. I still hate plagiarism
There is nothing worse than large group trying to decide what it wants to do. its like pulling teeth. I’m sure we have all experienced the hanging out with people with the desire to do something(gaming, eating, whatever) and have many hours go by without a decision being made. and by the time the decision is made half of the people are too tired or just want to go home. So I firmly agree with the disgust for frittering.
Sorry to hear about the palgarism thing. having to deal with that kind of crap, especially when it’s not fully in your control is extremely frustrating and somewhat disheartening.
and I commetn on the other thing but that has already been dealt with
π
plagiarism. I had a case of it today
Yup. In the IU course I teach a section of there was a big plaigarism case last semester. Looks like some students will get either an F for the class and/or expelled. Geesh. People turn in bad work BEFORE you even think of plaigarising.
I hope you soon get something to eat.
The whole process of a large group deciding where to eat can make me want to kick puppies.
Ok, ok, I’ll keep making reservations and from now on I will talk with the managers instead of just the host!
Plagarism makes me sick, fricken lazy ass people…grrr…
Frittering, though is one of the biggest pet peeves I have. After years of putting up with it, I’ve finally reached the point where, if it goes on for more than about 15 minutes (less than that is reasonable discussion, usually…) I’ll just make the damn decision, and tell anyone who doesn’t like it that they could have done the same, and they didn’t, so there. So yeah. I feel your pain. It makes me crazy.
Glad dinner is working out, though. π
You should stab the plagiarists in the head. Cathartic, effective, terminal, and teaches the others a lesson.
I’m glad you got ahold of D. Have a good dinner together, do fox-like things.
Ditto on the Frittering. Fuck that noise.
Sheep!1
Late to the game, but I hope you had flashy nightmares of murdering plagarists with sudden bolts of turquoise flame.
I too am not allowed to simply fail a kid for plagarism. GRRRR.
