The Leaden Eyed

Let not young souls be smothered out before
They do quaint deeds and fully flaunt their pride.
It is the world’s one crime that its babes grow dull,
Its poor are ox-like, limp and leaden-eyed.

Not that they starve, but starve so dreamlessly,
Not that they sow, but that they so seldom reap,
Not that they serve, but have no gods to serve,
Not that they die, but that they die like sheep

      1. Wow… I can’t believe you knew a Vachel Lindsay poem. He’s not exactly in the cannon anymore. I love him, though I admit the content of some of his poems has grown a little, um, dated.

      2. Heh…well, we come to things in interesting ways. He was quoted in a fanfic I read, so I searched him out to see what other keen things he had to say. I guess that means he’s left the cannon and entered the fannon?
