It’s not conspiracy if it’s right out in the open…and if it’s in USAToday, then it’s way the fuck out in the open.
Your tax dollars at work, my friends.
On the subject of Mike Brown being under investigation for “padding his resume”, I have a dual response that is partially “he was friends with the people who hired him…you mean they didn’t *know* that his resume was padded?” and “since when does getting fired from your last position for incompetence count as padding?” Maybe the employers who hired him for the head of the nation’s disaster relief program just didn’t bother to check his resume.

Also from the article:
Halliburton continues to be a source of income for Cheney, who served as its chief executive officer from 1995 until 2000 when he joined the Republican ticket for the White House. According to tax filings released in April, Cheney’s income included $194,852 in deferred pay from the company, which has also won billion-dollar government contracts in Iraq.
Cheney’s office said the amount of deferred compensation is fixed and is not affected by Halliburton’s current economic performance or earnings.
It’s not conspiracy if it’s right out in the open…and if it’s in USAToday, then it’s way the fuck out in the open.
Well put.

Interested in doing the Aristocrats tonight?
I don’t like the wording of that article. It seems like it’s trying to put skepticism on what Cheney’s office said. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it. Cheney’s office can “say” whatever they’d like. By definition, deferred compensation cannot be adjusted once a former employee leaves. It’s pretty much locked in, set-in-stone, and designed to give companies a break in the here-and-now so that they can pay high level execs later. (and honestly, under 200K annually in defferred comp seems really low to me… maybe he’ll get it for much a longer period? like maybe the rest of his life?)
Presumably, he is also a stockholder still… and that WILL improve based on how Halliburton performs, but then, ANYONE could be a stcokholder, so although it’s making money off of something dirty, I don’t know how else to view that.
If they want to make Cheney out to be a fat money-grubbing pig with blood dripping into his pocketbooks, looking at his pension (which he can’t change or refuse anyway) isn’t the way I’d go about it.
Not that he’s not still an asshat, you understand. 🙂
